What to Know About Training on a GLP-1

01

What GLP-1 medications are

GLP-1 medications are prescription drugs that act like a natural hormone involved in appetite and blood sugar. Many people taking them feel full sooner and eat less. They are prescribed and managed by a licensed healthcare provider.

02

Why strength training matters during weight loss

When you lose weight, some of what you lose can be muscle, not only fat. Resistance training gives your body a reason to hold on to muscle, which supports strength, balance, and everyday function.

03

Protein and nutrition considerations

A smaller appetite can make it harder to eat enough protein and nutrients. We focus on protein at each meal, hydration, and nutrient-dense foods, and we keep your plan in line with any guidance from your provider or dietitian.

04

Keeping muscle in a calorie deficit

The basics do the heavy lifting: progressive strength training two to three times a week, enough protein, sleep, and recovery. We track your strength and how you feel, not only the scale.

05

Building a routine you can sustain

Treatment plans can change over time. The habits you build now, consistent training, simple meals, and daily movement, are yours to keep whatever comes next.

06

General peptide education

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. In fitness and recovery communities, they are usually discussed in a few broad categories: recovery and tissue repair, body composition, and sleep and general wellness. Many have limited human research, and quality and legal status vary. I explain what is being discussed and what the evidence does and does not show, so you can have an informed conversation with your provider. This is general education, not medical advice.

07

Questions worth bringing to your licensed healthcare provider

  • Is strength training safe for me right now, and are there limits I should know about?
  • How much protein should I aim for while on this medication?
  • Which side effects should change how I train or eat that day?
  • Should I check in with you before changing my activity level?
  • What does the research say about the peptide I've been reading about, and is it right for me?
  • How will we adjust my plan if my treatment changes?
